SongSpark is not one tool — it is a workshop of eighteen small instruments, each solving one narrow problem, all running in your browser with no account and no API. The fastest way to learn them is to watch a song get written. This walkthrough follows one idea — "a night-shift driver who keeps a photo of a beach he has never seen" — from the first roll of the dice to a finished lyric with a playable melody.
Phase 1: Find the idea (Prompt Dice, Word Spark, Title Forge)
Prompt Dice rolls a complete creative brief: theme, mood, genre, a rule, and a structure twist. For our example it returns "ocean + dreamy + folk + use one image twice + end with a question" — instantly better than a blank page. Word Spark then hands you a board of nouns, verbs, adjectives and phrases for the theme, and you click the chips that feel right: "harbor, tide, headlights, dashboard, photograph." Title Forge mixes mood-matched words into ten candidate titles; we click "Postcards from the Night Shift." Every chip click copies the word — you are collecting vocabulary, not writing yet.
Phase 2: Draft the lyric (Lyric Genie, Line Starter, Madlib Bridge)
Lyric Genie generates a full structure-aware lyric from theme + mood + genre: for our folk song it returns verse/chorus sections with every line's syllable count shown. We do not keep its words — we keep its skeleton and replace the lines with our own material. When a verse needs an opening, Line Starter provides ten mood-matched first lines; when the bridge stalls, Madlib Bridge fills proven bridge shapes with random words until one sparks ("I never told the dashboard where I was going"). Acrostic Verse writes a verse from a name or keyword — perfect for the personal-song stage of a project.
Phase 3: Tighten the words (Rhyme Radar, Syllable Counter, Repetition Checker, Cliche Watch)
Now the editing pass, where SongSpark earns its keep. Rhyme Radar checks "tide" against its family (wide, outside, collide) and confirms Chinese pairs via the 十三辙 system when you write in Mandarin. Syllable Counter pastes your draft and flags any line more than two syllables off the median — in our example it catches a 14-syllable line sitting between two 9s. Repetition Checker reveals that "night" appears six times; we keep two and replace the rest. Cliche Watch flags "heart of the city" and offers a fresher angle — the phrase gets cut.
Phase 4: Build the music (Structure Planner, Chord Mood Map, Melody Maker, Key & Scale Explorer, BPM Tap)
Structure Planner lays out the folk shape — verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus — with adjustable bar counts; we give the bridge one extra bar so it breathes. Chord Mood Map picks a "dreamy" progression in D (I–iii–vi–IV) and plays it, so we hear the harmony before writing the melody. Melody Maker takes the syllable counts from our lyric and fits a melody to them — one note per syllable in the selected scale — and exports the result as a MIDI file you can drop into any DAW. Key & Scale Explorer highlights exactly which notes live in D major and checks whether our melody notes fit. BPM Tap sets the tempo by tapping along: 96 BPM feels right for the folk feel.
Phase 5: The finishing tools (Hook Builder, Cut-Up Lab, Chord variation)
Hook Builder generates four chorus-hook candidates from repetition-and-rhyme patterns; we steal "one more mile, one more lighthouse" and adapt it. When the second verse feels stale, Cut-Up Lab shuffles the existing draft into six new line arrangements — two of them become usable. At this point the song has a title, a structure, a lyric, a chord feel and a playable melody, all built with free browser tools.
The honest boundaries of the toolkit
Be clear about what these tools are: they are inspiration and craft assistants, not a songwriting robot. Lyric Genie generates original lines from templates and word banks — there is no neural network in your browser, and the output is meant to be rewritten. Melody Maker produces simple procedural melodies from scale and rhythm rules; think "melody sketch," not a Suno-quality master. MIDI export exists so you can take the sketch into a real DAW and finish it. These limits are the reason everything is free and runs offline — and the reason the songs you finish will be yours, not a machine's.

阶段 3：打磨文字（Rhyme Radar、Syllable Counter、Repetition Checker、Cliche Watch）

阶段 5：收尾工具（Hook Builder、Cut-Up Lab、和弦变化）
Hook Builder（记忆点构建器）会根据重复与押韵模式生成四个副歌 Hook（记忆点）候选；我们取用"one more mile, one more lighthouse（再一英里，再一座灯塔）"并加以改编。当第二段主歌显得陈旧时，Cut-Up Lab（剪切实验室）会把现有草稿重新洗牌成六种新的句子排列——其中两种可以直接使用。到这一步，这首歌已经有了歌名、结构、歌词、和弦感觉和可播放的旋律，全部由免费的浏览器工具完成。
这套工具箱的真实边界
要清楚这些工具是什么：它们是灵感与工艺助手，而不是写歌机器人。Lyric Genie 通过模板和词库生成原创句子——你的浏览器里并没有神经网络，其输出本来就是为了被改写而设计的。Melody Maker 根据音阶和节奏规则生成简单的程序化旋律；把它看作"旋律草图"，而不是 Suno 级别的成品。MIDI 导出的存在，是为了让你把草图带进真正的 DAW 中完成。正是这些局限，让一切得以免费并离线运行——也正是因为这些局限，你最终完成的歌才属于你自己，而不是机器。
